Wendy H. Jones is a prolific Scottish author who writes crime stories set in the city of Dundee. Wendy has led a varied and adventurous life. Her love for adventure led to her joining the Royal Navy to undertake nurse training. After six years in the Navy she joined the Army where she served as an Officer for a further 17 years. This took her all over the world including Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. Much of her spare time is now spent travelling around the UK, and lands much further afield.
As well as nursing Wendy also worked for many years in Academia. This led to publication in academic textbooks and journals. Killer’s Countdown is her first novel and the first book in the Shona McKenzie Mystery series. Wendy’s website is pretty active. You can read more about Wendy and her books at the Home of Wendy H. Jones.
The first in the DI Shona McKenzies series is Killer’s Countdown. And it just so happens I am currently reading this one! I understand from reviews of her other books that they can all be read as standalones. But why not start at the beginning?

Here are a couple of 5* reviews
Wendy jones is an amazing writer the characters are easy to relate to and by reading the first you get to no them well in the other books. Dundee is a great setting for all the story’s and she takes you on a murder mystery with lovable characters. A great read you can’t put down and even though I have read all five can’t wait for the next instalment well worth the purchase 5 stars!!!
This is my introduction to Shona McKenzie and I think I’ll be reading more. It was a thrill ride.
Shona McKenzie has recently relocated to Dundee after accepting a new post and found herself abandoned by her cheating husband. Suffice to say she’s nursing a heady hatred for men. It isn’t helped when the bodies of women start turning up and the body count is on.
This is a surprising book that throws up twists and turns aplenty. The characters are well rounded and have plenty of witty asides to take the edge off the bleakness. Jones is descriptive enough that you feel yourself in the thick of the action but she never overdoes it.
A fantastic first of many reads of this author.
